hey all! since there's always an abundance of cleanup/editorial threads and without transcriptions, there would be no annotations, i think it's only right that we take the time to congratulate and give thanks to the amazing @transcribers community. in the past year the community has taken MAJOR steps toward making Genius the #1 source for lyrics – not only in quantity but in quality.
i'm sure some of the older users remember this very well – although Genius is primarily a lyric site, before 2015 there was no push for transcribing. no incentives, very few updates, and no organization that brought users together to get albums up before inferior sites. in 2015, everything changed and more users than ever helped push Genius to the next level.
let's look at some stats: as seen in the following graph, at the beginning of 2015 we had only transcribed the lyrics to 49.19% of notable 2014 albums (10467 songs in total.) at the end of 2015, we went back and got ALL of them transcribed!!
now compare that with our 2015 numbers – as of now (the beginning of 2016) we've transcribed the lyrics to 84% of notable 2015 albums. what's even more impressive is that the amount of songs deemed notable almost doubled from 2014. this percentage is based off of 19835 songs.

what does this mean? in 2015, 16661 songs from 2015 were transcribed, in addition to 5318 from 2014. in total, that's 21,979 – a 327% increase from what we did in 2014.
this huge increase wouldn't be possible whatsoever without contributions from our amazing @transcribers and users who have taken part in the scribe-a-thon. excuse me in advance for the long tag wall, but here's just a few of the users who have helped increase the Genius lyric catalog:

i think it's safe to say that based off of everything previously mentioned in this thread, 2016 is looking better than ever. i, for one, am still constantly thinking of ways to help push us forward – if you have any requests, questions or just want to share ideas about how we can be even more complete in 2016, feel free to hit me up – my inbox is open :)
