I didn't think I'd be back so quickly with news about Vic Mensa, but as it turns out, I am. Vic dropped a new song today, "Go Tell Em" as a part of the compilation album Birth Of A Nation: The Inspired By Album.

If you have not listened, do yourself a favor and listen to this song, if not the album. "Go Tell Em" combines the rage of "16 Shots" with the message of "Formation" over an instrumental that harkens back to Kanye's "Jesus Walks".

It's powerful, raw, and infectious. Unfortunately, I do not believe it will be on his own debut album. Although if it is, watch out, it's a classic.

However, regardless of its status on Vic's upcoming debut the song is still significant for two reasons.

First and foremost, it shows that Vic is slowly lining up the hype for a release. Artists without the brand recognition of a Beyoncé or Drake don't release projects out of the blue; it hardly ever gets them any sales. You want people to have your work in their mind non-stop, you want them to know when you're dropping so they can make a mental note to pre-order your shit or put the funds aside to cop it the day it releases. After signing with Scooter Braun–the hype man extraordinaire for Justin Bieber, Kanye West, and Usher–Vic has been building popularity through the summer and into the fall. He's performed at Lollapalooza, he's done a world tour, he opened for Beyoncé, he performed for Justin Bieber, he performed at the Aaah! festival, he was featured live on MTV. All of these ventures are exposure for Vic, and dropping a song next to names like The Game, Pusha T, et al gives him a really nice way to cap off what has been one hell of a publicity run .

The secondary reason this track matters is the execution and the quality; both are top tier in this cut, and if we accept the fact that Vic is dropping sooner rather than later, it means we are going to get a dope album.

I've posted about his new tracks, two of them have been released in full–"Heaven On Earth" and "Stoner ". The third song, "We Could Be Free", has not come out in full but I'm searching for a full live audio rip.

If you want to be tagged, let me know in the thread.
