Debate of the Day [#164]: Should it be acceptable to joke about tragic events that have happened in the past?

Certain people say that there is a line that should be drawn when it comes to making light of horrible events such as 9/11, mass shootings or the Holocaust. Sometimes making light of situations such as these can be used as a coping mechanism, but not everyone will take these types of jokes the same way that you think they should. This is especially the case if either they or someone close to them they know was a victim of one of these tragic events. So should people go without criticism when making light of terrible tragedies despite the possibility of offending others who may think differently?
