It's the dawning of that age again, theater kids. Time to fill your head with some musical excitement and knowledge.

BROADWAY BID'NESS

  • THE EXODUS IS UPON US. All your faves are leaving Hamilton to go and shine elsewhere. Pippa's going to Amélie, Leslie's pursuing his music career, Daveed is doing… a [bit] of everything, probably, along with Lin-Manuel who's on his way to the Oscars among other destinations, though his hair taken a permanent trip over to t he great beyond. Did you cry? I made it with only happy misting, but I'm here for anybody who needs to let it out. Lighters up for "Who Lives, Who Dies, Who Tells Your Story."
  • Arianda Grande is on for Hairspray Live in December! Penny's gonna slay.
  • The Cats revival started previews today! Give it up for our more jellicle brethren.

COMMUNITY CENTER STAGE

Shoutout to community member projects: @TheMusicalShow has a youtube series, and it's awesome! Check it out, learn some musical theater history, comment about how awesome Sara is to be taking this on, because she is.

Reminder that the community page is growing, and could use you (yes, you) and your annotations.

Some users who deserve extra kudos this week! @wendla1891 is laying some great stuff down on Hair, @sosad21kinik hoovered the Off-Broadway Hamilton pages into their own shiny album, @lemoncave transcribed and album-ized for Camelot, Pal Joey, and Finding Neverland, @TheMusicalShow went in with some Company knowledge, @EricSays42 is murdering transcriptions on American Psycho and Bat Boy, @cordyleome revisited Hunchback of Notre Dame, and @Nettacki cleaned up some Beauty and the Bea st tracks.

EXTRA EXTRA: I'm looking for community members to sign up to do In Revue posts! It's a blast! And you be granted the dubious honor of being able to choose your own

SIDE BY SIDE BY GENIUS

Last week's "Mix Tape" has lots of great tates! I think all it needs to really be done is to get some metadata cleanup, if anyone wants to tackle that!

This week, we're going green and checking out a song from Wicked, which I know y'all love, so get on this.

"The Wizard and I" is a major solo and I Want song for our heroine, Elphaba, the wickedest witch there ever was, but not as overplayed as "Defying Gravity." It shows her inner vulnerability, letting the audience see how she's internalized society's pre-judgement of her because of her skin (timely or empty metaphor, let's debate), while also being one of the jammingest songs in the musical. After being given a co-sign by the headmistress of her academy for showing a prodigious magical talent, she celebrates inwardly that she'll soon be introduced to the biggest wig in all of Oz, the Wizard! We see that despite her struggles with self-esteem, she's got a lot of love and strength (and high notes) to give.

Hat tips to the the Shiz students who've already gone in here and elsewhere on the show, @jayasagae @kanalysis @emlc @Nightospheric @BadWolfBroadway @cordyceps @sophie106 @politedemon @racheljacobson Everybody else, jump on it!

FLOW IT, SHOW IT, LONG AS I CAN GROW IT, MY TAG WALL…
