Good morning, good morning, I hope y'all are fit as a fiddle and ready for another edition of In Revue!

BROADWAY BID'NESS

  • Ramin Karimloo is gonna play the new bad guy in the Anastasia stage musical. As sad as I am to lose Rasputin and the epic villain jam that is "In The Dark of the Night," gaining Ramin almost makes for an even trade.
  • Kristin Chenoweth released a new album today! As did another Wicked star, but we'll get to that in a minute. Kristin's album, The Art of Innocence, is a collection of well-known and more off-the-beaten-path American Songbook standards, and it's really lovely, so if you have a chance, you should give it a listen.
  • One of the producers of the Tyne Daly Gyspy revival is auctioning off his Tony for it, because reasons. If there are any Gypsy superfans in the house, the bidding starts at $10,000.

COMMUNITY CENTER STAGE

@cordyleome made moderator!! It was a slam dunk nomination and confirmation and she's already tackling persistent issues like the Case of the Two Wickeds, so giving her mod powers was obviously the right choice. She's also been doing great work on Miss Saigon, Sunset Boulevard, Assassins, Chess, and In The Heights!

Community highlights this week include @MusicallyObsessed jumping in on Hamilton, with @owllson and @NotVictorHugo working on Hamilton (Off-Broadway). Book of Mormon was popular this week, with activity from promising contributors @jrwill88 @apersonwhosenamemayormaynotbetyler and @lindapizzotti meriting a special mentoring appearance from @ewokABdevito. @lemoncave and @nutrishn both showed us th eir moves on Chess and Chess In Concert. @wendla1891 jumped in on Assassins, @Bysmerian continued to shine on Aida, @upstartcrow guided us through A Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder, @Mirikuni went Wicked, and @Mrsupdup showed us all up in The Mikado. @rightyuss did more great work on English-language Les Miserables, while @TylerCunnion continued their project on the original French production. This week our resident all-rounders were @jazzjo , who worked on Fun Home and In The Heights, @michelashero, who went offff on Phantom Of The Opera and Les Mis, @CmndrSloth, who jumped into The Addams Family, The Frogs, and Wicked, and @historicalkibitzer who worked on Wicked, Children of Eden, and Into The Woods over the course of about 36 hours (mad props, my friend).

SIDE BY SIDE BY GENIUS

Circling back to that other Wicked star who put out an album today, Idina Menzel released idina., a collection original songs. So I thought it might be nice to do a special edition of Side By Side to celebrate! There's definitely a couple sweet opportunities for annotation here, with references to all kinds of subjects ranging from aspirational tarot card metaphors to the too-real shittiness of her divorce. "I Do" is actually one of my fave songs on the album though. What can I say, I love irony (side-note: Idina is engaged again, irony on ironies!).

Some songs still need transcriptions, a bunch need song bios or song bio cleanup, and overall, it's a low-key and quite nice album that deserves a bit of polish. So if anybody wants to pitch in from @transcribers and/or @pop-genius, that would be super cool of youuuu. In the meantime, I know there are some Adele Dazeem fans in the house, so let's get to it @kanalysis @AngelicaKatherineSchuyler @emlc @Nightospheric @incorrectwickedquotes @CmndrSloth @aj_jaffari @CaseyBroughton @JoshWestonCohen @BrianAnthonyHernandez
