Decoding *Blond(e)*

Frank's always been a complicated lyricist and Blonde is no exception. I've spent ages pouring over the lyrics and still struggled to get an overall feel for the meanings of the album. Right now a lot is annotated but it's mainly one line annotations, little in a bigger context, so I thought it'd be good to make a thread where we can pool ideas and try and crack this future classic. I think the place to start is common things we find throughout the album, so here goes:

  1. The Two Versions. Two voice pitches, two titles (blonde/blond.) What's the significance of this? I've seen some people suggest it's about his bisexuality, it could be about dual sides to his character, any thoughts?

  2. Religious themes. There's mentions of God or the afterlife in "Pink + White", "Godspeed", "Close to You", Seigfried, "Solo" and probably more I've missed. What impression do we get from Frank's views?

That's my short list so far, so it'd be great to add some more and create a good resource for people trying to annotate. Please make suggestions and I'll add them to the list.

Other questions to think about:

  • Are there songs about specific relationships we might know about through media etc? Frank's quite a private guy but if we can pin down specifics it could help create good context.

  • Some songs may appear to be about relationships, but is that just how it appears on the outside? Does he use love as an analogy for other things?

  • Do the skit-like songs have significance for other tracks? For example, do the themes in "Facebook Story" appear elsewhere. In Channel Orange "Not Just Money" links to "Super Rich Kids". Is there any similar links here?
