Giving the nation a new syncopation it's….

IN REVUE #6!

If you don't know me, I'm @cordyleome, on stage as the understudy for @epaulettes for this issue of In Revue. I quoted Ragtime for two special reasons: first, because without Ragtime, there would be no me – I joined the site to add all the lyrics. (One of my future projects is to go annotate the heck out of it!) Secondly, as was previewed in an earlier In Revue thread, the special Ragtime concert on Ellis Island happened this week! You can see a preview video here and it will give you chills. And for you Hamilfans, Brandon Victor Dixon, playing Coalhouse Walker Jr. here, will be the new Aaron Burr starting in August! And on that note, on t o more Broadway news!

Broadway Bid'ness

A filmed performance of Newsies will hit movie theaters early next year. If you can't make that, of course, there's always the 1992 film to get you through your Newsies fix.

An Off-Broadway production of Tick, Tick…Boom! will open in October for a limited run. And the Charlie and the Chocolate Factory musical will open next spring, and will star Something Rotten's Christian Borle.

If you're in the New York area, make sure you catch Fun Home, Les Miserables, and Finding Neverland if you can – they are all closing in the next month!

And finally, Aladdin celebrated 1001 performances (Like 1001 Arabian Nights, get it?) with this cute cake and even cuter picture:

Community Center Stage

@EricSays42 made Genius a cheerocracy by cleaning up songs from Bring it On: the Musical. @seanpf and @evanime brought some knowledge to the barrio in In the Heights. @HSora annotated the emotional depths of "Javert's Suicide" from Les Miserables. @kanalysis continued their Wicked ways, @lemoncave dined with the "Ladies who Lunch" from Company, and @DianneDurante added more knowledge to the Hamilton pages.

Side by Side by Genius

Today we're featuring a particular favorite of mine, "Wig in a Box" from Hedwig and the Angry Inch. "Wig in a Box" is Hedwig's anthem as she recovers from a breakup and becomes a glam rock star. If you haven't heard it, there are several versions available: John Cameron Mitchell's from the film and off-Broadway albums, Neil Patrick Harris' from the Broadway album, and Blazey Best's version from the Australian album.

The song is a great specimen for annotation because not only does it show the change in Hedwig's motivation, it also names many different hairstyles that you can annotate with some trivia! And quick Cordyleome fact – at my wedding, when they introduced the wedding party, we all walked out while "Wig in a Box" played. That's how awesome the song is. So if you're a new, existing, or future HedHead, go annotate "Wig in a Box!"

The people called it Tag-Time...Tag-TIME!
