HERE COMES A LION, FATHER, OH YES, IT'S A LION!!!!
Okay, there isn't a lion, but now that I've got your attention with the English translation of the Zulu which opens The Lion King, let's get this party started.
BROADWAY BID'NESS
- For some reason, a musical adaptation of Sleepless In Seattle is set to premiere in London next spring.
- Broadway for Orlando's star studded cover of "What The World Needs Now Is Love" rocked the iTunes and Billboard charts, and DJs are getting in there to release remixes of the song, too.
- The Wicked movie is apparently getting new songs! Not sure how to feel about this, but I guess more Stephen Schwartz in the world can't hurt too much…
- Fiddler on the Roof will be sunsetting at the end of the all-too-swiftly flying year. I managed to get tickets to Fiddler for under 40 dollars last month, and it was absolutely wonderful. If you're in the area, I highly recommend the show. Bring tissues though. I'm just looking out for you.
- Steven Universe had its first "musical episode," featuring not two, not three, but SEVEN songs in the episode's 11 minute run. And speaking of needing tissues, the episode's a doozy.
COMMUNITY CENTER STAGE
Seriously, though Steven Universe really is blowing up on Genius in the wake of this latest StevenBomb. Congrats on getting a song from a musical other than Hamiltononto the front page, fam. I even got tapped to write an article about it! Particular shout outs to the amazing contributors on this latest batch of songs: @Nightospheric (a hero) @AmberPowell @CoolGuySevenSevenSev @Jediwolf @altaria38 et al
Work on the musicals community page continues unabated (s/o @lemoncave !!). Check it out, look for new stuff, add some new stuff yourself! @BasedGator also asked the community at large to name their Favorite Disney Movie this week, and I expect most of you Have Opinions On This Subject, so check that out as well.
Some users who deserve extra kudos this week! @IJVin has jumped on Buffy's musical episode in addition to dropping some tates on Wicked and Matilda, @KevinPrice is working with Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson, I spent much of last Friday night putting up the first half of Jekyll & Hyde's concept cast album (it's the best one, okay!), @pinkpaladin made a great start on Finding Neverland, @AngelicaKatherineSchuyler and @emlc got in deep with all things LMM, @Nightospheric did some in-depth work with In The Heights, @TheMusicalShow tackled Assassins, and @cordyleome worked on so many things I lost track and implore her to post here and run down the list.
EXTRA EXTRA: I'm looking for community members to sign up to do some of these In Revue posts! PM me if you're interested! It's a blast! And you be granted the dubious honor of being able to choose your own
SIDE BY SIDE BY GENIUS
This week we're featuring another high-powered female solo, but for those of us who are pint-sized in body but infinite in spirit:
http://genius.com/Matilda-the-musical-original-london-cast-quiet-lyrics
In this one song, we see deep into the mind of Matilda, cruising through high level physics theory and the detailed stories occupying her mind, touching on the stresses of her less-than-ideal "real" life, and showing that there is a vast, only-just-tapped well of potential in this one peculiar, spectacular little girl. Since some wonderful scholars (@LikeSilenceButNotReallySilent @janamay @IJVin @amosharper @minervamoon ) have already put some work into the Matilda album, all this one really needs is some polish to get the key lines fully annotated and properly shiny.
